With their virtual currency system, an initiative called Super Rewards is taking the one thing Second Life did right to the mobile gaming industry. Will it be a news source of revenue though?
By implementing the system into mobile games, advertisers will have a less obtrusive way to engage with consumers. When consumers choose to act upon an advertiser’s request, they will be rewarded with virtual money or goods. The developer however will be rewarded with real money.
One of the first game developers to have implemented this system is Golgi Inc. The system is featured in their iPhone game Loot Wars.
“Super Rewards provides mobile offers to Loot Wars as a perfectly balanced game feature that users enjoy. Integrating with Super Rewards means that Loot Wars is now a free iPhone application. Within the first month we’ve had 10 times the daily downloads and our revenues from Loot Wars have almost doubled.” Said Aaron Abeyta, CEO Golgi Inc.
