April 26th, 2010 by Arjan Olsder Posted in Platforms: Linux, Platforms: Symbian | No Comments »

Six mobile companies in Japan have announced to start developing a national platform for mobile application and game development which should go live in 2012.

The group consists of operator NTTDoCoMo (which built i-mode in the past). Renesas, Fujitsu, Panasonic, NEC and Sharp. The platform will be compatible with Symbian and Linux while Android (also based on Linux) is under consideration. When launched, the platform might also come available to non-Japanese companies.
