Verizon has unveiled their new App Store yesterday. It is called V Cast and will provide developers with a 70% kickback. Though others might give up to 80%, it is still very interesting if you are selling on one of the biggest channels.
Just like other App Stores, Verizon will have a QA team to check the quality of the games going live on V-Cast. In their BREW store, this was handled by Qualcomm and that set a clear example for them.
Qualcomm is even so successful, they remain in charge of the BREW store. BlackBerry also seems to get a special treatment from the operator as they will launch a special branded version of their App World store. This means that V-Cast will primarily focus on Symbian, Windows Mobile and J2me. It will come pre-installed on all phones sold on the network.
Next to commercial apps, Verizon will also allow free apps and games to be distributed. It does however handle this category with caution to prevent the free items from cannibalizing sales. This might mean problems for those planning to unleash their ad-funded portfolio on the operator.
Congratulations
