Windows Phone Tango not 100% Backward Compatible

February 14th, 2012 by Roelof Posted in Platforms: Windows Phone | No Comments »

The next incremation of Windows Phone will be Windows Phone Tango. This version will finally make one wish from Microsoft come true. Having a hardware spec for low-budget Windows Phone devices. There’s one big problem though…

It might sound a bit strange, but Windows Phone Tango will probably not allow all current apps to run on Tango devices. This is partly because Microsoft removed some functionality from the OS, but that’s not the biggest hurdle developers will have to take.

The biggest problem is that several apps will just not run on the low-end spec that Tango will use for cheap devices. This means fragmentation will be hitting Windows Phone, but probably at the same level as Apple has to deal with for the iPhone and iPad.

Windows Phone Mango devices are unlikely to receive an update to Windows Phone Tango.
